IN THE BEGINNING

Joan Tankersley has pioneered more than one marketing and brand evolution in her three decade, award-winning career. The one focus guiding that evolution and discovery has been cultural curation, through the lens of our contemporary lives.

I learned about the record buying world first packing boxes for customers in TX, but was quickly transferred to Director of Manufacturing for their burgeoning record label. I discovered very early to say yes to opportunity and ask a lot of questions. In that role, I ultimately learned about printing, photography, music mastering and art direction. But, it started in a warehouse and with a willing heart.
— Joan Tankersley

As a keen observer of the shifts and flows of culture and how those nuances inform buyers and audiences, she has raised the standard in Creative Direction and story-telling. Impacting culture through Arts and Communication is her mission, with a compass set on faith, authenticity, and beauty. This was first explored through Music and Entertainment clients in the early days of her career in her first company, The Cover Story. Helping music artists in the CCM/Inspirational/Indie Rock genres acquire an informed vision and visual statement for their brands was her professional genesis. With multiple Dove Award nominations and an ultimate win, she boldly made a lasting impact on the industry, pushing the envelope to reach into youth culture hungry for a beat and an epiphany, creating a way for the genre to move outside of the Church and into popular youth culture.

As a young entrepreneur, over the next seven years, she traveled to Mexico, New York, LA, and many states as an Art Director and Creative Director for packaging and videos. While she attended classes in Art History and Design, it became impossible to continue as her business grew into a full-time, multiple-employee design company. She also worked on her first film near Dana Point, CA, where she had her first IMDB page entry.

“I had no idea I had an IMDB page until 2016 when I discovered that it was created years ago from that early film work.”
